I have had my George Yu violin since 2009. I already own a Matthias Klotz in baroque setup, and I was not even in the market for a new baroque violin - but as soon as I played it, I fell in love and had to purchase it. The sound is clear and rich and responds so well. I would recommend a George Yu violin for anyone who is looking for an instrument with a rich and clear sound.

I had narrowed my search down to a 2006 George Yu instrument and one other in John Waddle’s shop in St. Paul. While just on the verge of purchasing the Yu violin, John handed me another to try. I played the two side by side and confidently decided I still liked the Yu violin better, without question. Then John informed me I'd just chosen it over a $150,000, antique Italian instrument.
I walked out of John's shop that very day with my newly purchased Yu violin. Since then, it has taken me to Carnegie Hall, Fischoff, SPSQC, and other venues. Its sound has carried me over the air on National Public Radio and Minnesota Public Radio. Its sound has developed further and further. The instrument is extremely versatile, and in all cases, the sound is full and clean - I haven't found an ensemble or context where the violin doesn't blend or project as I need it to. As a first violinist I need to push to the forefront often, but the violin shows its versatility when I pull back and blend. It naturally falls in with the other voices as a "typical" first violinist's instrument wouldn't be expected to.
My George Yu violin has an inexplicable "soul" in the way it sounds and plays. I have developed a wonderful connection with this violin, and I would highly recommend a George Yu instrument to others.
